Important Thoughts on Mentoring
Mentoring is defined by the nature and intention of a relationship, rather than the specific behaviors within it. While a mentor has unique attributes that define the role, this role is familiar to us and we can identify people we feel are or have been a mentor to us. Additionally, we regularly perform this role for others, often without appreciating that. An active mentor relationship has typical attributes that work together to create a foundation for success.
As you mentor someone else, your effective choices or responses are supported by a set of guiding principles. Mentors come in different shapes and guises and yet share the same tendencies and abilities. An active mentor relationshi...

Pitfalls to Avoid in Mentoring
Просмотров 1323 месяца назад
Let’s look at some natural barriers or blocks on your own journey towards becoming an effective mentor for others. Pitfalls could be things that you might do, or not do, or habits you might fall into, which will reduce your positive impact as a mentor. Potential pitfalls might include placing yourself under too much pressure, having your own agenda, or allowing the idea of being a mentor to sug...
A Process to Support Mentoring
Просмотров 1383 месяца назад
There are different activities and stages that naturally occur as you mentor someone. These stages of a mentor’s involvement will be especially relevant if you view your mentor relationship as an assignment, i.e. a series of conversations with an intended duration. For example, you may agree an assignment to provide mentoring support for a period of 18 months and meet your mentee, in person, ev...
What do Good Mentors do Well?
Просмотров 1123 месяца назад
There are some common tendencies of great mentors, abilities they have that result in successful relationships. There are a wide-ranging examples of mentor roles, defined by intention, relationship and circumstance, rather than specific descriptions of skill, knowledge and character. Where the quality of the relationship a mentor develops is more important than their own perfection, we shift em...
Guiding Principles in Mentoring
Просмотров 1083 месяца назад
The relationship is a meeting of equals, even though you might often be judged more senior than your mentee. In an organizational context especially, it’s a natural feature that someone more experienced might have a more senior role, or be considered to have more status in the relationship. This creates a natural emphasis or bias towards what you think and believe as a mentor. Where your intent...
What's Different About a Mentoring Relationship?
Просмотров 753 месяца назад
When we consider typical features of archetypal mentor relationships, the following themes appear consistently. In stories, a mentor character often assists with a distinct adventure or quest, during which the person they are mentoring must triumph by overcoming challenges and changing for the better. Since the idea of a journey easily translates to the on-going experience of life, where each o...
What is Mentoring?
Просмотров 1963 месяца назад
A mentor is someone who takes on the role of a trusted adviser, supporter, teacher and wise counsel to another person. A mentor adopts a primarily selfless role in supporting the learning, development and ultimate success of another person. Though mentors often benefit in some way from the relationship, these benefits are usually indirect and not the main motivation for mentoring. Mentoring is ...
Final Thoughts on Mentoring
Просмотров 703 месяца назад
Being a mentor for someone requires us to gather what we have experienced and share it with someone else. For a mentee, the gifts of being mentored include practical assistance, learning, growth and personal support that confirms that they are both valuable and valued. When you recall how your own mentors have made you feel about yourself, you connect with the potential contribution you can mak...

Mentors Avoid Dependency
Просмотров 783 месяца назад
As a mentor, the pitfall of dependency is one you need to stay aware of and yet not become distracted by. Asking the mentee to assist in monitoring the potential issue isn’t helpful. Also, you can distract or waste time looking for issues that are not there instead of focusing on positive topics, such as the mentee’s progress. As a mentor, you can combine the potential issue of dependency with ...
Mentors Set Direction and Help
Просмотров 683 месяца назад
Any one-on-one relationship presents the potential for either party (or both parties) to become dependent on each other. By becoming dependent, one party feels a sense of reliance on the other for something and would feel a sense of loss (or being uncomfortable) at the idea of not having it. It is important that you and your mentee remain independent of each other to enable the benefits of ment...
Mentors Shouldn't be Disengaged
Просмотров 533 месяца назад
As an effective mentor, you aim to sustain good levels of engagement, both for yourself and your mentee. Engagement enables a successful relationship for the mentor and mentee because they can be aligned on the goals of mentoring and invested in the process of achieving them. Engagement is a combination of our intellection, how we understand something, our emotion, how we feel about it, and our...
Mentors Shouldn't Suggest Superiority
Просмотров 653 месяца назад
Allowing the idea of being a mentor to suggest superiority or prestige is a pitfall. This pitfall occurs when we confuse an emphasis or focus on the mentor (because we have something the mentee wants) with superiority. This pitfall of superiority is a subtle one as it demands self-awareness from you as a mentor to spot both the tendency and the impact it is having upon your outlook and behavior...
Mentors Shouldn't have an Agenda
Просмотров 583 месяца назад
This pitfall occurs when a mentor distorts the intention of providing appropriate assistance by adding their own agenda. It is natural for a mentor to want their mentee to gain positive benefit from their involvement and make progress. However, a mentor’s intention can develop into wanting something specific for them, based on their own view. A mentor’s agenda can often develop as they begin to...
Mentors Shouldn't Pressure Themselves
Просмотров 693 месяца назад
An effective mentor is able to experience an appropriate amount of pressure and still react constructively in situations. An example of ‘appropriate pressure’ might be that you regard your role as important and one that you want to do well at. This positive type of pressure motivates you to function well in interactions with your mentee. While some levels of pressure are healthy and enlivening,...

Vry.effective vdo.lecture on Communication bt as a professional in my opinion it is an essential ingredient in management -employee relations. It seems that there is a direct correlation between employee communication and profitable operation of the organization.Management depends upon communication to achieve the Organizational objectives.since managers work with nd thru other people, all their acts, policies, rules, orders nd procedure must pass through some kind of communication channel.Information nd knowledge about all the aspects makes the operations of the organization comparatively trouble free.It is the responsibility of the management to ensure that the employees have obtained all necessary information about the different aspects including Skill development through different Training Methodologies nd get necessary feedback to achieve organizational goals in brief.Vry.informative nd outstanding lecture 👍

It's like making thumbnails for art or graphic design. Except with thumbnails I don't often have a clear problem I'm trying to solve so I'm just trying to come up with something that looks good. But first I should figure out what this particular image is trying to do first. Otherwise I'll just be copying other peoples best design. My best design is probably someone else's and as a result it won't be unique. You don't always want unique though. A unique website is hard to use. But a book cover should probably be unique. A logo should be unique. So you need to figure out what your trying to do and forget about making it look good. You can make any basic design look good. You have to come up with the problem that needs to be solved, solve it and then make it look good using colors. If you use all colors (the entire color gamut not just every hue) It almost has to look good.
